Skim coat is a thin layer of drywall mud across the entire wall — not just over patches.
We skim when the wall calls for it. Knockdown texture you want flat. Old drywall with small imperfections. Walls after popcorn removal. Two thin coats — not one heavy — sanded between.
A Level 5 finish. The smoothest drywall finish there is. Ready for primer and paint, under any light, from any angle.
We look at the wall under raking light — reveals every imperfection.
Baseboards, ceilings, floors, trim. Dust contained to work area.
Thin. Full wall. Feathered edges. 12" or 14" knife for flat coverage.
24-hour cure, then 150–220 grit to knock down ridges.
Second thin pass. Fills anything first coat missed.
Progressive grit — 150, 220, 320 where finish demands.
Skim coat is bare mud and drinks paint — primer controls that.
We paint (if bundled) or hand off primer-ready to your painter.
Single room, walls only: 2–3 days (including cure time between coats). Single room, walls plus ceiling: 3–4 days. Whole-house skim coat: 7–12 days, depending on square footage and existing texture.
We'll look at the walls under raking light and tell you whether you need a full skim, a partial, or just targeted repair.
